Assembly and maintenance Zipp Freehub Kit ZM2

  • Removing the old freehub body:

    • Remove the wheel from the bicycle.

    • Clean the axle and hub of dirt and grease.

    • Remove the freehub body retainer using the appropriate Allen or Torx wrench.

    • Carefully pull the freehub body off the hub axle.

  • Preparing new freehub:

    • Clean the bearings and clearance in the hub with isopropyl alcohol.

    • Check that the bearings still turn smoothly and are not damaged.

  • Installing the new freehub body:

    • Apply a thin layer of SRAM Butter grease to the bearings and freehub contact surfaces.

    • Place the new freehub body onto the hub axle, firmly but carefully.

    • Tighten the mounting bolts to specifications (usually approx. 10–15 Nm).

    • Check that the freehub turns smoothly and has no play.

  • Service and maintenance:

    • Clean regularly with a clean cloth and use suitable grease/bearing oil for the bearings.

    • Check the ratchet pawls and springs; replace if worn.

    • Use special SRAM or Zipp tools during disassembly for damage-free maintenance.

    • If necessary, leave maintenance to a specialist bicycle mechanic.
